InnoCarnival 2021

“InnoCarnival 2021” organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) was held in Hong Kong Science Park from 23 Oct to 31 Oct 2021. This year, the theme of the exhibition was “Innovate for a Bright Future”. To take care of those who could not visit the physical exhibition under pandemic, CUHK launched the first virtual exhibition cum online to offline interactive gaming platform. Visitors could deepen their understanding of the exhibited projects by participating in physical and online activities. During the exhibition period, an encouraging result of more than 4,000 engagements was achieved.

On the first day, The Financial Secretary, Mr. Paul CHAN ; the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr. Alfred SIT; the Permanent Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Ms. Annie CHOI; the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Ms. Rebecca PUN; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the HKSTP, Dr Sunny CHAI; the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), Mr. Albert WONG; and Legislative Council member Ms. Elizabeth QUAT, visit CUHK booth during VIP slot arranged by ITC. Research team member of Prof. Yi Chun LU’s project “A Safe, Scalable and Low-cost Energy Storage System for Smart City and Micro-Grid Applications”, Mr. Eddie LEUNG, explained their project and showed their first generation prototype to the guests. Representatives from CUHK included Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wai Yee CHAN; Associate Vice-President, Prof. Daniel Hong Seng LEE; Director of Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services, Prof. Benny Chung Ying ZEE; Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Martin D.F. WONG, also visited CUHK booth during InnoCarnival 2021.

4 prototypes were exhibited and 7 interactive activities were provided in the physical exhibition this year, enabling visitors a closer look at the projects and the theories behind them. Except for physical activities, in co-operation with Robotics, STEM and Green Innovation and Innovation and Technology Student Club, CUHK organized an online to offline interactive activity. Visitors got points from online games, offline activities, social media sharing and referrals. The 40 winners who earned the highest points during the exhibition period were awarded gifts related to technology and STEM. Besides, visitors participating in the physical exhibition could get a CUHK souvenir gift bag after the completion of on-site activities.

The CUHK robotics team and champion of Robocon 2021 Hong Kong contest instructed visitors to control the robot in “Throwing Arrows in the Pot” mission.
40 gifts related to technology were given out to the winners of the engagement activity. Visitors could redeem a CUHK souvenir gift bag in the physical exhibition.
