Checkered Playhouse is a lightweight prefabricated building product developed by The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is designed with careful thoughts on climate, structure, manufacturing, construction, transportation and maintenance. With its easy-to-assemble feature, persons without professional training or even students can finish the construction within days. The playhouse can be dismantled and reassembled at a different location, or be fully recycled, with no construction waste produced. With great assembling flexibility, the design can easily accustom to different environments and requirements. To date, 58 Checkered Playhouses were built in villages across different cities and provinces including Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Gansu, Chongqing, Xinjiang.
