A 3D imaging system that can be applied in the field of medical, fitness tracking, human systems engineering, etc.

Abstract:

3D scanners can be widely used in the field of medical, fitness tracking, apparel industry, human systems engineering, etc. Our team proposes a high-speed and high-resolution 3D imaging system by integrating:

(1)    a novel stereo photogrammetry algorithm;

(2)   FPGA-based parallel image and processing.

Problem to be solved:

Existing 3D imaging systems cannot capture 3D data with high speed and also with high resolution.

Applications:

Cosmetic Surgery

Our system can take 3D image of the face/head surface of a patient in less than a second. With the system, a plastic surgeon can make precise measurements, and can sculpt images to illustrate to patients the potential impact on their appearance of a particular surgical procedure.

Fitness Tracking

The system can be used to analyze the human body’s shape, pose and motion. With the help of our 3D scanning system, users are able to compare their body week to week so as to analyse the fitness training results.

Real-time tracking of the 3D positions of fingers or other body parts
