There is a growing tendency of new farmers joining the field, and they tend to prefer to practice farming as leisure or recreational activities. Aiming to facilitate the knowledge acquisition for these new farmers, and to keep arousing the interests of more citizens joining agriculture, a new interactive platform for Hong Kong agriculture (https://agropedia.hk), which hopefully can also be developed as a sustainable platform was constructed. Various food plants which were inhibited by the pests in different seasons were authenticated and well documented. 3D images of common pests have been generated and shared with general public through a newly developed mobile Apps and website.

Related details between insects and crops can be found on the newly developed website and mobile App

Uniqueness and Competitive Advantages:

  • Believed to be the first agricultural pests’study in Hong Kong
  • The use of electronic platform is effective in promoting local agriculture and raising the interest of the younger generation
  • Most of the local agricultural crops are covered and the findings are useful for the study of ecology and conservation
  • Users can take pictures with their mobile phones and upload the pictures to the app. It keeps the app and website sustainable, while hopefully attracting more citizens to join
3D images of 50 common agricultural pests can be found on the website and mobile Apps
